MY GENERATION:
Rock Music Legends
Explore the 1960's in this multi-part series.
People who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s had a soundtrack to the
events of their times. It alternated between feel-good sounds of the age
to the clashing of generations over issues that would set the course of
the rest of the 20th century.
Continuing his very popular series from last fall, Russ Gifford will
discuss the giants of the times and their lasting legacy. Each session is
built around video and audio clips and will feature discussion, debate and
hopefully a few insights. We'll cover the person's entire career, but
we'll ground the discussion in the social events of the years listed in
each section.
Experience the sights and the sounds of the 60's with videos, music and
memories. We'll also look for clues why this generation, which came
together in the late 1960's has become the most divided generation in
history today.
Thursday, Nov. 6;
Setting the Stage:
CROSBY, STILLS, NASH and YOUNG
In their various permutations, whether with other bands or as soloists,
the music of CSNY left an indelible mark on the Boomer Generation. We'll
trace the family tree, and look at the songs that became milestones in boomer
memories, We'll also see the post-'60's reflected in the groupings, regroupings, spinoffs and
spinouts of this, the first of the rock supergroups. And along
the way, we'll watch as the fabulous Sixties make way for the sensational
Seventies!
